A 67 year-old man has today been sentenced to twelve years in prison for the murder of a woman in Erdington three days before Christmas 2011.
Brian Mason stabbed Gillian Rennie, whom he described as his girlfiend, 37 times. The body was discovered four days later, after police forced an entry into the 58 year-old widow’s home in Croydon Road, in the Erdington Hall area of Tyburn.
The case had been delayed while Mason underwent a series of psychiatric tests to determine whether he was mentally fit to stand trial.
The judge said that he took account of Mason’s age in deciding on the length of his sentence.
